Khan’s Wedding Sneak Peeks At The Matrix Hotel, Edmonton

Khan’s Winter Wedding at the Matrix Hotel, Edmonton

Like every snow flake, every love story is unique!

“Thinking of you keeps me awake. Dreaming of you keeps me asleep. Being with you keeps me alive.” – Unknown

We have put together a few sneak peeks and some of our favorite photos from the couple’s winter wedding! Please check them out below 🙂

Their Story!

Here is a link to the couple’s engagement session:

I have known Azhar since his University days and I am so grateful that I was able to join him and Maggie on their wedding day to photograph it! Their wedding was a winter wedding at the beautiful Matrix Hotel. Their ceremony took place at the majestic St. Josphat’s Cathedral in Edmonton. While I work on the rest of the photos, I have put together a few sneak peeks for the couple that you can see below!

Their wedding celebrates the new year and the new beggining for the couple as they got engaged about three years ago right on new years eve. The couple had waited patiently to celebrate the day with their friends and family due to the global pandemic. When they finally got to celebrate, they did it with style and a bang! The Catholic ceremony at the St. Josphat’s Cathedral followed by the reception at the Matrix Hotel made for the perfect wedding day!

You can sign up for their online gallery to be notified when it is released via the link at the bottom of this post! The online gallery will contain a lot more photos than the sneak peeks here!

Sign up for Azhar and Maggie’s Online Gallery

Azhar and Maggie’s photos will take approximately 12 to 16 weeks to edit and once they have booked their viewing session and seen their photos they will be released to the following gallery for a limited time. Sign up today and we will notify you the moment the photos have been released. From the online gallery you will be able to view and star your favourite images, as well as order prints from the wedding.

It was amazing to work with Azhar and Maggie on their wedding day and we are honored to have been a part of their story! You can check out the rest of our work on our blog.

The Lemay Winter Family Session at Victoria Oval Park, Edmonton

A Beautiful Winter Day with the Lemay for their Family Session in Edmonton

I had a chance to photograph the Lemay and their adorable fur baby for their family session. It was time to update their yearly portraits and they wanted to do a winter photoshoot! We choose Victoria Oval Park as the location for the family photos. It was ideal due to the snowcovered landscape and the attached ice rink.

We started with some portraits of the children with their dog and some group portraits of the family! While the weather was cold, it was just perfect for winter family photos. The white snowy backdrop made for great portraits. We also took some adorable photos of entire family skating together over the ice rink! Most families like getting their portraits done in the summer but winter portraits can be equally fun and beautiful!

As an Edmonton Family Photographer, my objective is to create timeless pieces of art for my clients and their family.

Elissa and Shawn’s engagement session at Fort Edmonton Park

Edmonton Wedding Photographers – Fort Edmonton Park – Elissa and Shawn’s Engagement Session

Because summer is overrated!
Winter Engagement photos can be amazing and you add a bridge to that mix…

Their Story

Having met in Grade School in the beautiful town of Chiluwa, British Columbia, Shawn and Elissa didn’t necessarily had the fairy tale love story. It did not start with Shawn falling for Elissa the moment he saw her. It started off slightly differently. Shawn and Elissa grew up in Chiluwa, they moved separately to Edmonton, Alberta.

Having ventured out of town looking for work, Shawn and Elissa met in Edmonton. They had lived their entire lives next to each other but had not spoken to each other. As fate would have it, Edmonton became the little spark that was needed to create this inferno of love. Elissa and Shawn started talking approximately 9 months ago and as they say, the rest was history. One night, Shawn decided it was time; he picked up a ring, rose petals and a bottle of champagne. Being avid ice skaters, they both went down to the local ice rink where Elissa had no idea that a very “rosy” surprise was waiting for her. Of course, she said “yes” which is why I was able to take these amazing photos of this adorable couple!

https://vimeo.com/153740349

Love stories don’t just come about, we are born along with ours. I know some might disagree but hey we get our opinions! I wouldn’t have said this unless I had seen the way Shawn treated Akira (Elissa’s daughter). Akira adored Shawn and Shawn showed her love befitting that of a worthy dad!

I am so excited to see this family become one in the future and I hope to be the one to capture their wedding day.

A little bit of background about the location that the couple chose for their engagement session: Fort Edmonton Park, Edmonton, AB.

Fort Edmonton Park forms one of the many historic sites that make Edmonton such a treasure in Alberta. It is full of rustic buildings and beautiful scenery. It permeates an aura of history that goes back to 1700s with its steam engine and wooden buildings. Right beside the park is a beautiful bridge that forms an easy crossing for joggers and walkers across the Saskatchewan River.

At one point in the shoot, we were so frozen that even my camera stopped working and I had to warm it up in the car to get it working again haha!

Bridal Session for the Banners in Edmonton, AB

Emma and Kent Banner – Reliving the dream day | Bridal Session Edmonton

Emma and Kent met in England approximately 13 years ago and knew they were destined together. Having traversed a journey together that spans across 9 years and the Atlantic ocean, they live currently in Edmonton, Canada. Emma currently is a photographer herself while Kent works for the Edmonton Polic Force. They are quite a badass couple in actions. They met on the police force in England. After being married for almost 6 years, Emma’s wedding dress didn’t see much use. Therefore, when I suggested that we organize a bridal session shoot, she leapt at that chance. Being the supportive husband, Kent also got on board with the idea of reliving the dream of their wedding. It was a tad colder than it was on their wedding day (Edmonton weather!!).

Emma and Kent’s New Home in Edmonton, AB

Emma and Kent Banner had decided to purchase an acreage on the outskirts of Edmonton is on top of some beautiful rolling hills! When we were discussing where the shoot should be done, our idea was to have some beautiful sunsets in the photos. We discussed a number of locations, all remote and pretty but slightly restricted. This is when Emma suggested we go to the couple’s new acreage that was still under construction. I thought this was a splendid idea once Emma showed me a photo of the average. I couldn’t have asked for a better location! Here is a quick shot of the location:

The Cold Stung but the Bridal Photos were Hot!

No quite literally, I had to use Hot Hands hand warmers in my pocket to keep my fingers from freezing off. I have no idea how Emma braved that cold -20 weather and posed for those photos. On the other hand, Kent and Emma had a lot of hot romance going which I felt kept them fairly warm! It also allowed me to create some amazingly cute photos! Here is a slideshow of some of those photos! As an Edmonton Wedding Photographer, these photos bring me so much pride!

52 Skillz with Stephen Robinson // Edmonton Portraits

52 Skillz with Stephen Robinson // Edmonton Portraits

I had a chance to work with Stephen Robinson who is the creator of  the series called “52 Skillz”. It is the undertaking of an individual where Stephen decided he wanted to learn 52 Different Skillz across 52 weeks and boy has it been a journey. I met Stephen Robinson in eHub at the University of Alberta while he was working on some ideas for his new skill.

He is an extraordinary individual who taught me to challenge myself to learn something new everyday. In his quest to develop a new skill every week, he has been able to demonstrate the ability of humans to adapt and learn at an incredible pace.

His final project was to combine all of the 52 skillz he learnt during the year to make a huge Rube Goldberg Machine. I got a chance to see the machine in action and it was very impressive. Here is the video of the machine in action:

52 Skillz Behind the Scenes | Photography Skillz

52 Skillz BTS – Photography

Stephen Robinson is an awesome awesome individual who decided he wanted to learn 52 skills over 52 weeks. He started this project never really expecting the response he saw from it. He has so far been featured on CTV (Canadian National Television Chanel) as well as on other media channels. You just need to see the videos he makes to believe what he is capable of.

Having met him at eHub at the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada I got inspired to learn new skills myself. He recently told me that he will be doing the final 52nd Skill soon which will draw an end to the first session of 52 skillz. In order to commemorate the awesome ideas he has had and the final 52nd Skill we decided to collaborate to setup a cool photoshoot. I got a chance to have a look at the last skill (its a secret so don’t ask me to divulge) and very honestly it is one of the best things I have seen so far!

Its ridiculous in its complexity and execution. Its beyond something I had envisioned for sure!

Check out the fun video we had a chance to make from our shoot on his friend’s Vegreville farm:

(PS why is Vegreville so cold!!)

We got to play with Smoke Grenade (colored) and let me tell you they are beyond awesome to play with!

I am so looking forward to other shoots with these babies!

Michael & Ying’s Wedding in Muttart Conservatory, Edmonton, AB

Michael & Ying’s Wedding Muttart Conservatory, Edmonton, AB

Trusting someone with your wedding photos is a big deal and I treat it as such. Michael & Ying hired me to do their wedding photos for their moderate ceremony in Muttart Conservatory. Being the middle February, it had a certain wintery charm to it that you will see in the photos. The wedding took place on 16th February 2015.

Wedding Slideshow:

None of our weddings would be complete without this signature slideshow that showcases some of the photos from the wedding day:

https://vimeo.com/162242203

The wedding ceremony took place at the Muttart Conservatory. It was a simple yet beautiful ceremony that involved a unique sand colored ceremony. The bride also wore a red wedding gown which is quite different from the conventional white. It looked absolutely gorgeous again the white snowy backdrop of a wintery Edmonton. Michael & Ying met at the Universtiy of Alberta while working together on a project. Their story did not end there and they ended up starting a family together.

We went down to the Legislature building to take the formal photos for the bride and groom. It was a majestic and beautiful backdrop for the photos. The architecture of the provincial building combined with the snowy landscape gave us the opportunity to create some amazing images. At one point we were almost frozen down to our toes but thankfully the bride and groom survived without any form of frostbite 😛

Edmonton Wedding Photographers | Brendan Proposes to Alyssa

If fairy tales come true, this was one of them.

This young fellow contacted me through my email and said to me “If you can take pictures today of a proposal outside, this contract is your’s”.
Now keep in mind this was at the start of an Edmonton Winter and it was coooold (-20 that day). I said yes I will do it, because I knew it would give me a chance to witness something wonderful and it did as you will see below!

So Brendan drives me down to the location and tells me that His to-be-fiance did not know about this and that I should stay hidden and take picture incognito, so I went into my ninja mode and hid in the trees pretending to take pictures of the nature out in the cold.

Allysa and Brendan

So here I waited like a ninja for a solid twenty minutes before the couple arrived.
They started walking towards a pretty bridge I had told Brendan to use as the location for the proposal.

Allysa and Brendan-2

And here I was sitting in the foliage snapping pictures….

They reached the bridge and started talking randomly… as couples do when they take walk together with their cute dog!

Then he says something funny, and she starts laughing… Oh Btw my toes were frozen by this time… and he is reaching for the ring as well!

And he gets on his knee and asks her to be with him…

And guess what? She said yes! Look at that adorable couple! Don’t you just melt in this wintery weather with happiness?

Then I got a chance to make them pose for me once Alyssa knew her SO had hired us to immortalize this beautiful moment!

We do our best among the Edmonton Wedding Photographers community.
