In some of my previous posts, I shared some of my adventures from New York City. One of those adventures was with this amazing couple: Jean-Pierre & Katy. This is another blog post that tells tales of my adventures in that amazing city. I witnessed Love in Manhattan and these photos are part of that story 🙂
I went to NY as part of a workshop called Choo Choo Camp (I know sounds silly…Its a really long story) and during the workshop I got to meet some amazing humans! As part of the workshop I learnt things ranging from new innovative photography techniques to brilliant client services methods.
Following the workshop, I got a chance to photograph some amazing couples on the streets of New York. This is is second of the 6 couples that I photographed in New York! Pam and John had an intimate chemistry and a playful flavor to their personalities that is clearly visible through the photographs! They looked into each other’s eyes and got lost at times. I experienced love in Manhattan first hand.
Pam & John, you are cute and romantic beyond words! <3 Here is some proof if you don’t believe me…
Bitten by the travel bug, my dream now is to photograph love on every corner of the earth! If you are an adventurous soul who yearns to create some amazing photographs, contact me and we will have some cool adventures together! PS We will also have amazing coffee and food to plan out the adventures first!

Pinup Wedding Reception at Windsor Estates
You know when you walk into the diner and see the cutest family where the siblings help each other, the mother and father love their family and each other and it all looks like the happiest bunch! That was Joe & Benjamin. This family that consists of 6 family members and lots of love was absolutely amazing to photograph. I documented their wedding day on July 23rd, 2016. Starting early in the morning with Joe & Benjamin as they got ready, we photographed them throughout their wedding day.
The Balsa’s Same Day Slideshow
The Reception slideshow above is included in everyone one of our wedding collections and is very well loved by both family and friends. It is composed of a selection of photos from the time the bride and groom are getting ready to the ceremony, family formals and creative formals. It is presented in a classic black and white video format that we show during the reception on a projector and a screen we bring along with us. We also upload the same slideshow the very next day to our blog for everyone to enjoy while we edit and prepare the wedding day images.
Benjamin & Joe’s Online Gallery – Sign Up
Benjamin & Joe’s photos will take approximately 6-8 weeks to edit and once they have booked their viewing session and viewed their photos, the photos will be released to the following gallery for a limited time. Sign up today and we will notify you the moment the photos are released. You will be able to view and start your favorite photographs as well as order prints for your home!
The groom (Benjamin) got ready at his parent’s house and he looked stunning! He was accompanied by his best man Jayson who helped him get ready!
Bride Getting Ready
You know there is a certain charm to photographing the details of the bride’s jewelry and dress as seen here! Her dress was a pinup style simple but elegant piece of craftsmanship.
You know there are tears on their way when you see the bride giving a gift to her mother in law and her maid of honor. This is exactly what happened here!
It would be an understatement if I were to say that the members of this family just love each other; look at this cute photo of the mother of the groom and the bride!
Kill will be kids
Because, kids getting ready for a wedding is a thing of its own. They play game on their Nintendo DS followed by fighting with their shoes to put them on. The photo above of Joe & Tera where Joe is holding her hair was a very funny and cute moment where Tera refused to let Joe do her hair and kept making Pokemon like sounds. She was one of the flower girls of the ceremony and the bride’s eldest daughter!
Family photos at Windsor Estates
The family photos were captured at the Groom’s parent beautiful house in the Windsor Estates and this house has been in the process of building for the last 20 years as the couple wanted to build it themselves! It looks absolutely stunning!
Wedding Ceremony at the Hastings Lake Gardens, Edmonton
Joe & Benjamin had one of the fastest and shortest ceremony I have ever seen! It was extremely cute and all the guests were happy to be there for this adorable couple! Their exit was decorated with flower petals as you can see in the photo above! The wedding at Hastings lake gardens was absolutely beautiful. Following the ceremony, we were able to use the nearby locations for some great creative formals!
Creative formals at Hastings Lake Gardens & an old church!
These are some of the images that were were able to create for this adorable couple! Their wedding at the Hastings Lake Gardens was absolutely gorgeous. We had sunny weather following the ceremony which was just perfect!
Reception at Windsor Estates
Here are some of the details from their reception. The reception was held at Benjamin’s parent’s house and was setup by special event rentals!
We were so fortunate to be a part Benjamin & Joe’s wedding. It was an absolute honor to be a part of their day!

I am infrequently asked “What camera do you use?”. Another common questions is “Canon or Nikon?”. This is my wedding photography gear and I am happy to share it with you 🙂
As an answer to all these questions I am writing the following blog post. It details and describes my gears and choices:
Lets start with the basics:
Nikon vs. Canon:
This is one of the most often asked questions. I use primarily Nikon gear (and no I am not paid to do that!). The reason I prefer Nikon is because that is where I started. Canon is an equally capable brand! I do like the very wide dynamic range that can be found in the camera. This allows me to shoot in a variety of conditions.
The Basics:
I use a DSLR (digital single reflex lens camera). The technical jargon is meant not to confuse but elaborate. I use a variety of lens in combination with my two DSLRs. I also use a variety of lighting gear with a variety of lighting modifiers.
The Camera: D750 x 2
I use two Nikon D750s. These little beautiful monsters work well for the kind of work I do. They perform well under the pressure of a wedding day and allow me to create art pieces for my clients.
Here are a couple of feature I love about this little beauty:
Dual card slots (This allows me to backup any photos that I take to two different cards).
Wide Dynamic Range (Allows me to pull up shadows from any underexposed images in post processing).
Ultra-fast auto focus (This camera has an amazing auto focus system that allows me to nail shots on the first try and never miss a decisive moment.
Light (when you carry a camera and a 70-200 mm 2.8 lens for the entire day during a wedding, any little reduction in weight makes a huge difference!).
Amazing low-light performance (This camera can notch up ISO level to 10,000 without losing any quality. This makes it capable of producing images in near darkness)
The Lenses:
One of the perks of owning a DSLR is the ability to change lenses. I use a variety of lenses from Nikon and sigma and they are detailed below:
Sigma 35mm 1.4 – Art Series
This beautiful beautiful lens is not only one of the most optically correct but also one of the sharpest lenses that I have ever used. It is an absolute beauty and works well in every situation. The 1.4 also helps me shoot in very dark conditions or with very shallow depth of fields allowing for very certain looks in my photos that would otherwise be un-achievable.
Sigma 85mm 1.4
This is another prime lens in my gear bag. This beauty allow me to take amazing portraits that you will often find in my creative formals section. The compression combined with 1.4 aperture allows for some very unique looks.
Nikon 70-200mm 2.8
One of my friend used to call this the ray gun. For good reason too. This is one of my favorite lenses for receptions as it allows me to get candid moments. This beautiful telephoto lens is able to shoot under difficult lighting conditions while allows for vibration reduction thus giving me the ability to get tack sharp photos.
Nikon 60mm 2.8
Nikon made this little beauty thinking about ring shots. Its a nice macro lens that allows me to get up close to the rings thus letting me get amazing ring shots that you can find littered throughout my blog!
Lighting Equipment:
One of my favorite parts about creative formals is creating special lighting. This usually involves me using my trusty YN-560IV flashes as well as lighting modifiers. Here are some photos of the gear I use!
YN560IV Flashes
This little trust flash unit allows me to create special lighting effects. This flash unit has a radio trigger built in that joins with the next device that I am gonna show you.
YN600 Radio Transmitter
This little radio transmitter goes on top of my camera and triggers the flashes at the same time as the shutter clicks thus allowing to control lighting in scenes effectively.
I also use a plethora of other equipment including a carbon fiber tripod, lighting stands, umbrellas, softboxes & diffusers etc.
One essential part of my equipment is my trust Mac book Pro where I edit all the photos!
Feel free to ask me any technical questions in regards to the gear I shared info about!
Cook’s Wedding in Calgary Wedding Pavilion & Carriage House Inn
A beautiful Fall Wedding in Calgary, Alberta
Monika & Anthony decided to tie the knot on the 10th of October 2015. Their wedding was held at the Calgary’s Wedding Pavilion & Carriage House Inn. I was fortunate enough to be a part of their wedding day in collaboration with JM Photography. These are the photographs from their wedding and showcase what a beautiful ceremony it was!
Bride Getting Ready
Monika did most of her bridal prep at the Calgary Wedding Pavillion where the other bridesmaids assisted her. We got some photos of the dress being put on, some detail shots of the jewellery as well as some photos of the beautiful venue itself.
The Wedding Ceremony at the Calgary Wedding Pavillion
Wedding ceremonies represent not only the personality of the couple but also how they envision their lives ahead. Monika & Anthony’s ceremony was not only beautiful but it took place in the stunning Wedding Pavillion. It featured beautiful chandeliers and an amazing array of windows along the walls. Monika entered gracefully via the gorgeous staircase. This led to a magnificent ceremony which was followed by some family portraits and creative formals.
Creative Formals at the Fish Creek Park in Calgary, Alberta
Following the beautiful ceremony, we went down to the Fish Creek Park in Calgary to photograph the bridal party. During the formals, the guys had a lot of fun with the groom where they picked him up at one point in time.
We found a beautiful clearing in the woods that was lined by birch trees. It created a fantastic backdrop for these formals that you can see below:
We also ran into a generous individual who let us borrow his bike for some amazing photos!
Wedding Reception at the Carriage House Inn
Following the formals we travelled down to the Carriage House Inn in Calgary. This venue was equally beautiful if not more than the Calgary Wedding Pavilion. The wedding reception was themed around a rustic look that was well complemented by the wooden decorations.
Bride and groom entered to a jubilant crowd that cheered them on periodically during dinner (thus leading to kisses). During the dinner, there were some tearful speeches followed by the classic shoe game.
A gorgeous three-tiered cake was created by the venue. You can see that it was not only beautiful but delicious.
It was a great and beautiful day and I was honoured to spend it with this wonderful couple. Want to share the Box Cube Photography experience? Contact Me today to book your free consultation.

Bullock’s Wedding in Blue Devil Golf Club, Calgary
Below are some of the images from Brittney & Mike’s wedding that we shot with JM Photography. These photographs showcase a candid story of the day from the First Look down to the reception itself.
First Look at Bow River
The wedding day began with Mike waiting for his bride with his groomsmen at the bottom of a river valley that sits next to the Bow River in Calgary. While the groom and the groomsmen waited (and drank from their flasks) we took some awesome photographs that showcased this beautiful location!
Below are the photographs of Mike’s expression as he saw Brittany walk in through the breezy alley in her majestic wedding dress. The first moment they shared together evidently proclaimed “this is love”. It was a special moment that I felt honored to share with them.
As you can see from Mike’s expression, he was fairly anxious to see his bride to be 😛
Majestic trees do tend to help create amazing photographs and I am so glad to have had this tree assisting us. It formed both a shelter for the bride and groom and a great background for the photograph themselves. Accompanied with a shimmering river and a wonderful sunny afternoon, I could not have wished for better conditions.
The Ceremony at the Blue Devil Golf Course, Calgary
After taking a few more photographs with the bridal party, we started heading towards the Blue Devil Gold Club in Calgary to photograph the ceremony itself.
If the location of the formals was fantastic, then the ceremony location was gorgeous. It was situated on a veranda with a grand view of the golf course around it. Mike & Brittany professed their love to a cheering crowd and became one family. They exchanged rings and kissed at the end of a beautiful and simple ceremony.
Reception with a Pie! (you really wanna read this part!)
Not only is the Blue Devil Golf Course an excellent venue for the ceremony but also a great venue for the reception itself! The reception was held in one of the banquet halls where the Bride & Groom’s family and loved ones gathered. The decor was stylistic and rustic with accents of wood and fabric. You could see how much care and love had been poured into planning the wedding. In particular, there was a tree with Mike and Brittany’s name on the floor that was made out of a light shining through a mold. That, in my opinion, was fantastic.
Instead of choosing to do what everybody does, Brittany and Mike chose to get a pie instead of a cake for their wedding.
Following the cake cutting, the couple danced to a few slow songs followed by the parents joining them on the dancefloor. It was an excellent way to end the evening.
It was a great and beautiful day and I was honored to spend it with this wonderful couple. Want to share the Box Cube Photography experience? Contact Me today to book your free consultation.

Part of being someone’s wedding day is an amazing opportunity and I had the honor of photographing Zubair and Amara’s Pakistani Wedding. It was a beautiful ceremony that was filled with emotions and joy. The wedding took place at the Mirage Banquet Hall on 27th December 2015. It marked the last wedding that I did that year and what a glorious wedding it was.
Our weddings are usually completed with a viewing session with the couple where we share the edited photos in the form of a slideshow. This is the slideshow right here!
https://vimeo.com/158860534
Here are some other snippets fro the rest of the day:
Bride & Groom Getting Ready
This is where I and my second photographer started working with Zubair and Amara to capture some of the pre-ceremony photos. You can see as Zubair gets ready by ensuring that he looks strong and elegant for his bride while Amara goes through the process of Hair & Makeup to ensure she looks her best (which she absolutely did!). This couple bedazzled the crowd like no other.
You can also see some shenanigans going on with a console as the groomsmen and the groom partake in a “friendly” match. On the other hand, the bride and her sisters share an emotional moment as they put on the bridal “dupatta”.
Formals | Hotel Fairmont McDonal
Following the preparation Zubair and Amara braved the cold and went out for some wintery photos followed by some formal at the Hotel Fairmont McDonal, Edmonton, AB. This gave me the opportunity to photography this extremely photogenic couple in some classic romantic scenarios. You can see in the photo just below to the right that Zubair’s clothing got stuck in Amara’s Dupata and there was this brief shared moment that was timeless.
I love the candid photo right below the single shot of Amara where we can see her smiling through a staircase railing.
Ceremony: Mirage Banquet Hall
This is where we got to the ceremony venue where I got a chance to photograph Zubair as he entered. I love the photograph of him and his mother where they share this beautiful hug.
Cake Cutting | The Leaning Cake
I know this is a gorgeous cake and make it all of you hungry to look at it but this is also a great memory of the wedding! 10 years down the road when Amara & Zubair look at this photo they will remember their cake as the “Leaning Cake Of Pisa”. But regardless it was a beautiful and delicious cake!
Ring Exchange | Snowy Lights!
This is where the bride and groom exchanged their rings and I found this wonderful snowy tree in the venue to photograph the rings against! Woho.. Look at the pretty shiny rings there..
Fun & Games
This was hands down the second best part of the day (first one coming up soon!). This is where Zubair & Amara were quizzed about their favorite actors, sportsman and man did they know each other well. It was hilarious to watch as the crowd cheered each of them on! You can see the genuine laughter on their faces throughout the photos!
Dancing | Bhangra Much?
Now it wouldn’t be your best friend if he didn’t prepare a dance number for your wedding would he? Well this couple got an awesome welcome to their married life by the group of their friends with a wonderful dance performance. Best Part of the Day | Jota Chupai
Remember I told you about the best part of the day? Well, this was it. This is where the bridesmaid (and brides sister) hid the show of the groom and held it hostage for a ransom. There were a lot of negotiations to get the important piece of clothing back but it wasn’t without its casualties (Zubair’s Pocket being one!). You can also see one of the wedding party members hiding a spray of those strings that were then later used to reduce the bid. As you can see the shoe itself did not survive the colorful attack.
This was the end of the beautiful day where Amara left with Zubair for her new home and a new family was born. Hopefully I’ll get to see this couple in the future when they have their first baby 😉

Edmonton Wedding Photographers – Fort Edmonton Park – Elissa and Shawn’s Engagement Session
Because summer is overrated!
Winter Engagement photos can be amazing and you add a bridge to that mix…
Their Story
Having met in Grade School in the beautiful town of Chiluwa, British Columbia, Shawn and Elissa didn’t necessarily had the fairy tale love story. It did not start with Shawn falling for Elissa the moment he saw her. It started off slightly differently. Shawn and Elissa grew up in Chiluwa, they moved separately to Edmonton, Alberta.
Having ventured out of town looking for work, Shawn and Elissa met in Edmonton. They had lived their entire lives next to each other but had not spoken to each other. As fate would have it, Edmonton became the little spark that was needed to create this inferno of love. Elissa and Shawn started talking approximately 9 months ago and as they say, the rest was history. One night, Shawn decided it was time; he picked up a ring, rose petals and a bottle of champagne. Being avid ice skaters, they both went down to the local ice rink where Elissa had no idea that a very “rosy” surprise was waiting for her. Of course, she said “yes” which is why I was able to take these amazing photos of this adorable couple!
https://vimeo.com/153740349
Love stories don’t just come about, we are born along with ours. I know some might disagree but hey we get our opinions! I wouldn’t have said this unless I had seen the way Shawn treated Akira (Elissa’s daughter). Akira adored Shawn and Shawn showed her love befitting that of a worthy dad!
I am so excited to see this family become one in the future and I hope to be the one to capture their wedding day.
A little bit of background about the location that the couple chose for their engagement session: Fort Edmonton Park, Edmonton, AB.
Fort Edmonton Park forms one of the many historic sites that make Edmonton such a treasure in Alberta. It is full of rustic buildings and beautiful scenery. It permeates an aura of history that goes back to 1700s with its steam engine and wooden buildings. Right beside the park is a beautiful bridge that forms an easy crossing for joggers and walkers across the Saskatchewan River.
At one point in the shoot, we were so frozen that even my camera stopped working and I had to warm it up in the car to get it working again haha!

Emma and Kent Banner – Reliving the dream day | Bridal Session Edmonton
Emma and Kent met in England approximately 13 years ago and knew they were destined together. Having traversed a journey together that spans across 9 years and the Atlantic ocean, they live currently in Edmonton, Canada. Emma currently is a photographer herself while Kent works for the Edmonton Polic Force. They are quite a badass couple in actions. They met on the police force in England. After being married for almost 6 years, Emma’s wedding dress didn’t see much use. Therefore, when I suggested that we organize a bridal session shoot, she leapt at that chance. Being the supportive husband, Kent also got on board with the idea of reliving the dream of their wedding. It was a tad colder than it was on their wedding day (Edmonton weather!!).

Emma and Kent’s New Home in Edmonton, AB
Emma and Kent Banner had decided to purchase an acreage on the outskirts of Edmonton is on top of some beautiful rolling hills! When we were discussing where the shoot should be done, our idea was to have some beautiful sunsets in the photos. We discussed a number of locations, all remote and pretty but slightly restricted. This is when Emma suggested we go to the couple’s new acreage that was still under construction. I thought this was a splendid idea once Emma showed me a photo of the average. I couldn’t have asked for a better location! Here is a quick shot of the location:
The Cold Stung but the Bridal Photos were Hot!
No quite literally, I had to use Hot Hands hand warmers in my pocket to keep my fingers from freezing off. I have no idea how Emma braved that cold -20 weather and posed for those photos. On the other hand, Kent and Emma had a lot of hot romance going which I felt kept them fairly warm! It also allowed me to create some amazingly cute photos! Here is a slideshow of some of those photos! As an Edmonton Wedding Photographer, these photos bring me so much pride!

Motherhood is something that is beautiful beyond the description of words. I feel honored to get a chance to photograph this auspicious event in someone’s life and as such I treat it with extreme care!
Almost a year ago, I took photos for Van and Christina’s couples session that you can see here. It was a beautiful winter session. Recently, Van told me about the baby that was on its way and we went out to get some photos of the couple in the local park where the couple would go for runs during the summer. The sun setting in the background set an excellent stage for these beautiful photos that I got a chance to capture. Providing Maternity photography services in Edmonton, Box Cube Photography
