Family Portraits

One of my most prized possessions is the family album that has photos from my childhood. There are photos from my parents’ wedding, my baby photos, my siblings and me being goofy and in general all sorts of memories. As such, my studio places a very high importance on family photos and capturing memories for a lifetime. I was invited by the Pervez family to do a family portrait session at their house. The portraits were meant to be used for their house’s walls and a family album as well.

In House Studio Portraits

The family wanted a studio aesthetic and therefore I brought along my mobile studio setup with me. I setup a backdrop with artificial lighting to create some killer portraits for the family. We took some photos of the individual members of the family as well as group photographs. These photos were then printed onto an album for the family to enjoy.

Kids are fun to work with!

Children are one of the most curios human beings. They find strangers (and camera fascinating). This makes photographing them both a challenge and a fun experience. These kids were a delight to work with though! They were very cooperative and actually posed well for some of the photos the parents wanted.

Jacques Wedding at The Alberta Art Gallery

Jacques Wedding Alberta Art Gallery – Sneak Peaks

Beautiful clear skies in Edmonton

Jean & Ornella’s wedding took place on the 4th of July, 2015. This couple decided to tie a knot and become one family at the Alberta Art Gallery. Below are some of the sneak peeks from their wedding formals.

You can also check out their engagement session at the Victoria Park, Edmonton right here! Jean & Ornella’s Engagement Session. These photographs were extremely memorable and some of them were displayed at Jean & Ornella’s wedding as well! Following the engagement session, I was extremely excited to photograph this couple!

Our sneak peaks give an opportunity to our valued clients to look at their photographs right after their wedding while the whole editing and selection process is being completed.

Formals in the River Valley

The wedding began at the Ornella’s house where she was getting ready for the big day! Following her preparation, we photographed Jean getting ready at his place. This was a great opportunity to take some candid and details shots of both the bridesmaids and groomsmen that you can check out on our follow-up blog post HERE.

Wedding Ceremony at the Alberta Art Gallery

Following the getting ready photos we went down to Alberta Art Gallery for the ceremony itself. It was a beautiful and simple ceremony where the bride and groom tied the knot and became one family.

Formals at Rundle Park, Edmonton

Right after the ceremony we had a chance to go down to the Rundle Park, Edmonton to take the creative and family formals for the bride and groom. During the family formals, we had to chase down a number of family members as they kept exploring the park (it was a huge family!).

Reception at the Capilano Center, Edmonton

After completing the family formals and the creative formals, we went to the Capilano center to get setup to photograph the reception, first dance and cake cutting!

Wedding Planning List. You need this list for your wedding!

edmonton-wedding-photographers-box-cube-photography-older-couple

I am assuming this is your first experience planning either your own or someone else’s wedding and, therefore, I will try my best to break the wedding mojo down into the simplest and easy to follow steps.

Edmonton-wedding-photographers-box-cube-photography-sharyar-memon-wedding planning list

First of all: Preparation, Preparation, Preparation. These are the three rules all wedding are based upon. If you plan for any and all eventualities you are gonna be fine in any scenario possible. There Plan, Plan, and Plan.

** I am making a number of assumptions here: You are A. The Bride or B. Someone who is supposed to plan the huge monster of an event (Good Luck!).

Second: Lets actually dive into the wedding planning list:

  1. Just got engaged? Everyone will start asking for your wedding date now! Well, you can’t give them one just yet since there are a ton of details to work out! So don’t give out the date yet!
  2. Schedule; set up a schedule for yourself where you set a deadline for all the things that need doing. For example booking the venue, the gown etc. Also, decide on the range of dates that you want to have the wedding during (i.e Summer, Spring etc – you might wanna consider holidays, vacation times, or other events that might be happening during your desired time to avoid conflicts)
  3. Get Inspired!; Now is one of the most fun parts of planning this important day! Imagine your wedding and think about things that you want for your wedding such as the colours, the vibe (vintage, modern, nature etc), the location (a beach vs a church). I would even suggest getting a wedding planning folder or binder to start collecting the ideas into. If you want to find inspiration, Pinterest is one of the best resources out there!
  4. Budget it! I realize this might be problematic in the beginning but its one of the most important steps of the way. One cool tool to budget stuff is the one from Theknot.com and it can be found here. This helps ensure any decision you make later are well within your control and budgeted for!
  5. Guests eh? Your budget will decide how many people can be part of your big day so think about your budget and then think about what kind of ceremony and reception do you want? A large and extravagant one or a small and intimate one with close family and friends? Most caterers will usually charge on a per-head basis so its good to stick to your guns (i.e budget) when deciding on the guests.
  6. Wedding Party!!! This is also crucial! Once your man proposes to you, you gotta get your ducks in a row with all your friends and family member who you want to be part of your bridal party. These people are gonna go all out for you so ensure you appreciate them and take care of them!
  7. Planner maybe? In case you are a busy couple who can’t spend the time planning the wedding or have complex ideas about what you want with your wedding, it can be a huge stress relief to hire a wedding planner! We know a couple of really good ones and if you get in touch with us we will connect you both! Keep in mind the budget again!
  8. Location, Location, Location: Now comes the time to get a location for your big day (and in turn get a date set for your wedding! woohoo!!). Keep in mind the budget and theme of your wedding! Usually, you can bargain for a better rate from a location by doing your wedding during a weekday or in off-season times if that is a concern. Some venues come with in-house catering so its always a good idea to ask for extras (if you need any). You should also book early for this (a preferable couple of months at the least in advance).
  9. Book Vendors: Have you always looked an photographers work and thought “Oh I wish I could get photos like that?” Well now is the time to book that photographer. Also, get the florist while you are it! And your favourite cake designer! Oh and the Dj too!  Keep in mind popular vendors are booked up to a year in advance and once booked they can’t be booked for the same date so keep that in mind while you search for them. Prioritize here: Do you want the best Dj in the city or the best-looking album of photos to commemorate your wedding? Decide what you want and dedicate larger chunks of your budget to it! Get in touch with us if you are still looking for vendors and we can connect you with some great ones! (we might be able to snag a discount for you as well 😉 ;).
  10. Dress up time! Now comes the time to get the dress on! Look for inspiration in photos and put them in your binder before you go for your appointment at the boutique. If you are on a budget Facebook groups like these are the great place to look for used bridal gowns! :

Rita and Darlene’s Engagement Session at William Hawerlak Park, Edmonton, Ab

Rita and Darlene’s Engagement Session at William Hawerlak Park, Edmonton, AB

So let me get this out of the way: this couple is quite something! They were onboard with the idea of a vintage themed picnic styled engagement session. How many times do you even get to see that?

During our initial consultation, we decided we wanted to do the engagement session at the William Hawerlak Park near the river valley in Edmonton. When I suggested to Rita & Darlene that we do a themed session they were totally on board with it! I am so glad we had the chance to photograph this unique couple in such a unique fashion!

To complete the aura, Rita & Darlene actually brought a picnic basket, a wine bottle (although we didn’t drink since that would be illegal in public :p), and one of her favorite books to the session. I thought the best part was the shared Coca Cola bottle that Rita & Darlene drank from! That was so cute to photograph.

Following the engagement session we set up a viewing session for the couple where they had a chance to view their engagement session photos and select the ones they wanted for their wall prints and albums.

Rita and Darlene’s engagement session was one a kind where we styled it to vintage ideas with a picnic basket, old Coca-Cola bottles and a classy novel.

Jean & Ornella’s Engagement session at Ezio Farone park

Our studio offers our clients an opportunity to work with us before their wedding day. This ensures that our clients are not awkward or stressed out on their big day. We setup Jean & Ornealla’s engagement session at Ezio Farone park, Edmonton AB.

This is what we set out to do for Jean and Ornella as we took photos for their engagement session! These portraits were taken at Victoria Park in Edmonton, Alberta. We loved their ingenuity and easy laughter! It was an absolute please working with them and our clients thought the same of us, you can check out the video below!

Jean & Ornella’s wedding will be held next month and we are equally excited to photograph them there!

Ezior Farone park overlooks the beautiful Saskatchewan River in Edmonton, AB. The couple chose this location based on recommendations we provided. They wanted a location that combined both the urban and natural elements of the city.

They say love is limitless! We believe it is since we get to experience it everyday! This is our job! Capture love in a photo that goes beyond years to come!

Michael & Ying’s Wedding in Muttart Conservatory, Edmonton, AB

Michael & Ying’s Wedding Muttart Conservatory, Edmonton, AB

Trusting someone with your wedding photos is a big deal and I treat it as such. Michael & Ying hired me to do their wedding photos for their moderate ceremony in Muttart Conservatory. Being the middle February, it had a certain wintery charm to it that you will see in the photos. The wedding took place on 16th February 2015.

Wedding Slideshow:

None of our weddings would be complete without this signature slideshow that showcases some of the photos from the wedding day:

https://vimeo.com/162242203

The wedding ceremony took place at the Muttart Conservatory. It was a simple yet beautiful ceremony that involved a unique sand colored ceremony. The bride also wore a red wedding gown which is quite different from the conventional white. It looked absolutely gorgeous again the white snowy backdrop of a wintery Edmonton. Michael & Ying met at the Universtiy of Alberta while working together on a project. Their story did not end there and they ended up starting a family together.

We went down to the Legislature building to take the formal photos for the bride and groom. It was a majestic and beautiful backdrop for the photos. The architecture of the provincial building combined with the snowy landscape gave us the opportunity to create some amazing images. At one point we were almost frozen down to our toes but thankfully the bride and groom survived without any form of frostbite 😛
