The Mitchell’s Engagement Session at Edmonton’s Muttart Conservatory

The Cutest Couples & The Best Sunset at Muttart Conservatory

The Engagement Ring and How They Met

Brianna & Kris are one of the cutest couples I have ever photographed. They are both nerdy and love start wars! They met at the Alliance Church in Spruce Grove in 2014. They would often hang out after choir and discuss things ranging from Harry Potter to Start Wars. Kris would often take Brianna’s son to rock climbing as well!

This cute couple had its first date at the Muttart Conservatory. Given their affinity for rock climbing, they climbed the Dove of Peace! Kris proposed to Brianna on January 28th, 2017. The bought the ring together and then went to the Van Oyster Bar for dinner. They had oysters the first time and followed that with a walk down Whyte Avenue! They eventually went down to their first date spot, the Muttart Conservatory, where Kris went down on one knee to propose. Somehow, the ring fell down in the snow and both Kris & Brianna had to go searching for it.

The only words Kris had said on his knees were: “I have an important question”
The immediate answer that followed was “Yes!”

Kris, being the amazing gentleman that he is, went to see Brianna’s parents first and got their permission. With their blessing, this couple got engaged and will be getting married really really soon!

The hair and makeup were done by the amazing Hamana of Hamana’s Artistry. She used a palette of beautiful colors that suited Brianna’s outfit and skin tones but also made her look very beautiful! Krist looked equally handsome in his jeans and plaid shirt!

The Engagement Session at Muttart Conservatory, Edmonton

Muttart conservatory is one of the most beautiful spots within the city. With its unique combinations of pyramids and scenic view of the city, it is the perfect spot for engagement photos. I love including places that are sentimental and important to my couples in the photos. In this case, this was the spot where the two love birds had their first date!

I am so fortunate to have had the opportunity to photograph Brianna & Kris’s engagement photos and we are really looking forward to joining them on their wedding day.

The Zanardo’s Wedding at Leduc’s Stone Barn Garden

A Beautiful Sunny Wedding in the Stone Barn Garden

Their Story // Zanardo’s Engagement Session

Their Ceremony at Stone Barn Garden, Leduc

Shawn and Elissa tied the knot under a beautiful sunny Alberta day! Their wedding was held at the Leduc’s stone barn garden. They became a family and exchanged rings to promise to share their love for the rest of eternity. Their vows were emotional and beautiful!

The ceremony was conducted by the wonderful Pastor Ed! The flower girls were Kira and Mila, Elissa & Shawn’s beautiful daughter and their absolutely adorable niece.

Mickey’s flowers did a splendid job with the bouquets and decor! It looked absolutely stunning in combination with the very cool architecture of the stone barn garden.

The Family Photos at Stone Barn Garden

We took some family photos for the couple following their ceremony! The couple and their family looked wonderful with the stone barn garden as the background! Elissa family was so cute and multi-cultural, it was awesome!

The Creative Formals in Stone Barn Garden

In order to create the perfect wedding album for the couple, we create some beautiful portraits during their creative formals. The creative formats for Shawn & Elissa were done around the lake near the stone barn garden! We gathered the wedding party and walked around the lake. We created some portraits with the wedding party, the couple and of course the flower girls!

The Zanardo Reception at Telford House

The Dinner provided by the talented culinary staff at Telford House

The reception was held at the Telford House in Leduc. This beautiful venue has rustic wooden vibes and looks wonderful with the decor and colors the couple chose for their wedding! During the cocktail hour, we photographed some of the details of the decoration of the venue. We also started preparing the same day reception slideshow for the couple!

The dinner (that was excellent!!) was followed by a wonderful set of toasts by the friend and family of the couple! This couple has touched so many lives that all the toasts were emotional and full of happy tears!

Dancing the night away to the sounds of Tanner Hansen

The first dance between Elissa & Shawn was so well orchestrated yet innocent! The first dance was followed by the couple’s respective parents dancing with them which were equally emotional! At one point, Kira and Shawn were dancing together and it was so cute and emotional! I started crying while photographing it…

The Engagement Ring and How They Met

You know when people say that social media is taking people further apart, I tend to agree most of the times. Now and then, I come across people like Sonja & Aaron who force me to throw that perspective out the window by telling me they met via POF. Now if you don’t know what that is, and you are single, I suggest you find out fast! Hint… lots of fish…

Anyway, Sonja & Aaron both lived in BC before moving to Calgary. They started speaking online via POF. Sonja had already moved from Vancouver down to Calgary for work. At this time, Aaron was still in Victoria. Right around the time of stampede, he decided to do what everyone originally from the East Coast does, move to Alberta for work. It turned out to be one of the best and most impactful decisions he had made for his life. This was almost three years ago. As they say, the rest is history. The first meeting soon turned into a second and a third meeting, with Sonja’s friends telling her she would be an idiot not to give him a chance. They eventually moved in together, bought a house and have a beautiful and huge dog together “Freja” who is so cute! They are like the perfect cute family! Don’t believe me? Check out these cute pictures and the video below!

See the thing about cute couples is, they don’t stop being cute at any stage in life. The proposal is so cute in this case! It was their 2nd Anniversary and 2nd stampede together when Aaron went down on one knee and presented Sonja with two ring pops (Ok there was more than two, but Aaron loves candy). One for himself, one for her. That was the proposal and of course who can say no to a proposal like that? This was July 2016. Come January 2017 they made it more official and had the ‘real’ ring custom made. With the centre stone they bought together, they combined gold from both families and had Sonja’s grandmothers ring remade to form a unique and sentimental piece. Isn’t that just special?

Emilia with Emilia Art makeup did such a fantastic job of the hair and makeup for Sonja. The light and fresh look went so perfectly with her outfit and the location. Thank you so much for your amazing work!

The Engagement Session at Prince’s Island Park, Calgary

Calgary is full of cool locations to take engagement photos in. We choose the Prince’s Island park due to its proximity to the couple’s house and the huge variety of mini locations that exist within the park. We also went out to this cool nearby spot where we could overlook the whole city!

Zac & Mary's #Wedding. Image by Edmonton #weddingphotographer Box Cube Photography © 2017 https://boxcubephoto.com #edmontonweddings #edmontonbride #edmontonweddingphotographer #edmontonphotographer — Hotel Fairmont Macdonald in Edmonton, Alberta.

A castle, winter, and the perfect dress; this is what makes a fairytale wedding. Of course, an amazingly beautiful couple that glows with love is a cherry on top! I had the chance to photograph Zac & Mary’s winter wedding last winter at the Hotel Fairmont Macdonald.

Zac & Mary Getting Ready

The Guys Getting Ready at Hotel Fairmont Macdonald

Early during the day, we joined the couple at the Fairmont Hotel where they were staying for the duration of the wedding. Zac was in a hotel room with his best man Daryl who was helping him get ready. We took some photos of the guys goofing around and having fun to calm the nerves. We took some individual portraits, some details shots of the cufflinks and photos of Zac & his best man posing.

The Girls Getting Ready at Hotel Fairmont Macdonald

After photographing the guys, we went to the bride’s room. Mary was getting ready with her mother, her bridesmaids, and her friends. Given the gorgeous location of the hotel room, we were able to get some amazing afternoon light. The bride also opened a gift from the groom which a gorgeous Swarovski bracelet. In a light-hearted moment, the mother of the bride gave her a kiss on the cheek and it led to giggles and laughter all around.

Their Ceremony at Wedgewood Room, Hotel Fairmont Macdonald

The ceremony took place in the Wedgewood room. This room is named after the Wedgewood design of china and is intricately detailed and look absolutely stunning. It has a beautiful chandelier in the middle and large windows letting in natural light all around the room.

The ceremony was commissioned by Julia Thatchk and she did such a splendid job of that! Some of the bride and groom’s friends and family members also said some beautiful words to mark the beginning of their lives together!

The Family Photos at Hotel Fairmont Macdonald

Following the ceremony, we gave the couple some time to mingle with their friends and family while we photographed some candid moments. We photographed the bride and groom with their family members in the hotel’s western hallway.

The Creative Formals in Muttart Conservatory

Once we completed the family photos we went out to the Muttart Conservatory. It is one of our favorite spots to photograph couples at in Edmonton. It is the perfect combination of urban and nature. We went inside the conservatory where we photographed the couple in several of the feature pyramids. Following that, we went outside into the cold and took some photos of the scenic view of downtown and snow near the conservatory.

Zac & Mary’s Reception in the Wedge Wood Room, Hotel Fairmont Macdonald

The Dinner provided by the talented culinary staff of Hotel Fairmont

The reception was held in the Wedgewood room again. The excellent staff at the Fairmont were able to flip the room into a completely different look for the reception. It was decorated with colors of gold and white which looked beautiful. We prepared the reception slideshow for the couple.

The entrance of the bride and groom was surrounded with Eritrean Tradition where the elder men of the family held swords while the elder ladies held flowers as they entered the hall with the bride and groom. It was something very different from what we have photographed so far and we are so honored that we could witness it. Following the entrance, the food was served which was a delicious buffet prepared by the excellent chefs at the Hotel Fairmont.

Everyone Gets a Cake!

Zac and Mary did something a little different for their wedding where instead of having one giant cake, they placed one small cake on each table! The cake itself was a gorgeous combination of white chocolate, cream, and soft mushy core. The bride and groom eventually cut the cake and we photographed it. These photographs will become part of their wedding memories and will remind them of the beautiful day they spent with their family and friends.

Dancing the night away!

Finally, the couple did their first dance together. They looked amazing together and showed some serious dance skills! Following the first dance, everyone joined the couple on the dance floor where they ended up dancing the night away!

Near the end of the reception, Zac and Mary changed into traditional Eritrean clothing and joined the rest of their family on the dance floor.

An online gallery of all their images is available for the next 30 days. From the online gallery, you are able to favorite images, order prints and share the gallery with your family and friends. Their Story!

Samantha & Wyatt met on a running track! Being medical professionals and runners, they had a lot in common from the very beginning. Samantha and Wyatt also shared a running coach! Their running coach saw that they would make a great couple and got them in touch with each other. The rest as they say is history! I photographed the couple’s engagement session at Peace Hills Park, Wetaskiwin as this was where they had met the first time!

Samantha is a super-planner who likes planning things out in advance whereas Wyatt enjoys spontaneous happenings. These two love birds were travelling to France for a trip. Samantha anticipated that the proposal was going to happen in Paris since her mother had tipped her off(romantic right!!). Well it didn’t, instead Wyatt had a different idea. He planned the proposal so it would be a complete secret and come as a surprise. They were both visiting a castle and Wyatt went down on one knee and proposed. After the initial surprise, there was a resounding yes from her followed by lots of tears and cheers from other tourists in the castle!

Peace Hills Park, Wetaskiwin, Alberta

The couple chose this location due to its emotional significance to them! The couple had originally met in the park the first time and had taken many a run together in this park as well. This meant that they were able to show me some of the cooler hidden spots within the park. This made for some excellent shots from their engagement session!

This park is located near the Montgomery Glen Golf Course in Wetaskiwin. Its a favorite for locals due to its numerous trails and beautiful mountain rest spots! We did the engagement session late in September which meant we were there for the perfect fall colors! The yellows and greens combined with the perfect autumn sunlight made for a gorgeous background for photos!

I am so fortunate to have had the opportunity to photograph Samantha & Wyatt’s engagement photos and we are really looking forward to joining them on their wedding day.

Edmonton Bridal Stylist / Wedding Day Fashion Stylist – Featured Vendor – Tyrel Abbott Weddings

Edmonton Bridal Stylist – Featured Vendor – Tyrel Abbott Weddings

As part of our commitment to our clients and their wedding day, we often partner with other vendors to see if they would be a good fit for our clients. Those partnerships usually lead to great results and we are then able to refer those vendors to our clients, as we trust them. One such partnership was that with Tyrel Abbott who is a bridal stylist.

What is a bridal stylist or wedding day fashion stylist?

Wedding days are huge moments in the couple’s life and a bridal stylist allows them to plan those moments according to their sense of fashion and style. It includes helping you decide on the dress, jewelry and even the shoes you will wear on the wedding day. A bridal stylist will give you advice on a hairstyle that will work well for your look as well as the kind of makeup that would look amazing.

I had the pleasure of working with Tyrel Abbott who was a current fashion director for “Say Yes to the Dress Canada”. He is a Bridal stylist who has styled many brides head-to- toe for their wedding day.

Edmonton Bridal Stylist Wedding Day Fashion Stylist - Featured Vendor - Tyrel Abott Weddings (13)

Here is the interview with Tyrell Abbott:

How did you get started?

My career as a Bridal Stylist began when I was helping a friend who was shopping for a wedding dress. Unintentionally, I took over her appointment and the owner of the store noticed, she later reached out to me and offered me a job.

Tell me about your favorite wedding last season.

I worked with a bride last year that had overcome some big personal issues.  Because of this she was having difficulties envisioning her body in a dress.  She had heard about me from a friend of hers who I had dressed for her wedding.  I loved that I could help her see that she was beautiful and worthy of having the best day.  We shopped at several stores and through a few tears found her perfect dress.  I love helping brides find that!

How far out should a bride pay a deposit to secure your services for her wedding day?

Weddings take time to plan.  If you are seeking my services as a Bridal Stylist purely for shopping, I’d recommend booking two months ahead of when you plan to order your dress which is typically six to nine months before your wedding date. If you are looking for full-service freelance Wedding Planning, I’d recommend booking shortly after your engagement, when you are ready to start sorting out the specifics. Deposits are made within 2 weeks of booking me and the balance is due 10 days prior to the event or at the completion of finding your dress.

What is included when a couple books your services for their wedding?

It depends on what they need from me. I do everything from planning and coordinating, dressing the couple, finding vendors and hair services if required.

For full-service Wedding Planning, I offer unlimited phone and email consultations and a minimum of 10 hrs in person. If a bride has hired me just to find her a dress, I will do what it takes to find her the dress.

I will always tailor the package to the specific needs of the couple; I want everything about their wedding day to be better than what they imagined.

How do you help couples customize their wedding?

Once I understand their vision, I become the curator of their wedding day. I will take all of the ideas a couple might have and edit them into an event like no other. Most people have never planned a wedding and don’t know where to start, whereas, I have experience planning many, an eye for detail and long list of contacts that specialize in creating anything a bride or groom might wish for.

What is one interesting fact about your services?

One interesting fact about my services is that I styled brides on a national scale.  As a Fashion Director on season two of W Network’s Say Yes to the Dress Canada, you can pull up past episodes and see me at work.  So I have a great knowledge of trends and have worked with every type of bride.

What do you have planned for the future?

I have many weddings in my future! I would love to style brides internationally but we will have to wait and see.

How many people can you accommodate? (i.e bridal party makeup)

As a hairstylist I can accommodate almost any number.  I have a second stylist that works with me and we work very well together.

What makes your services unique?

There are not a lot of people that have the hands-on experience that I do in so many aspects of a wedding. I understand the hairstyles, fashion, design and the logistics that need to all come together for a flawless event.

How long has this business been a part of the community?

I have been in the hair industry for over 15 years and weddings for 4 years.

Who would be the best person to contact if a couple wants to book your services?

In order to expand my technical skills and to have some fun, I decided it was time to collaborate with some of the other people in the local photography community. This is where I went on to Model Mayhem and got in touch with Katie!

I had no idea what I was getting into….

We planned out the shoot with some vague guidelines and thoughts along the idea of: modelling, posing, Sue Bryce etc. We had a lot of keywords floating around but no clear idea on what we wanted to do really. The location we decide upon was the Terwiliger Dog Park near Rabbit Hills, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. We rolled into the park around 5 PM and started walking towards this “cool” spot which Katie had been to earlier. Let me tell you, it was quite a walk!

Anyway. Following that we started setting up the shoot and in rolled the wind. The wind sent one of the flashes crashing down with the umbrella and I decided I will go “all natural light” for this shoot (personally I LOVVVEEEE using flashes!).

We setup to near this winding path and we got these really cool images! :

Following the path, we went further down the rabbit hole (you get the reference? If not you need to read some books my friend). We found this alcove and then got the following cool iamges:

As you can see, I went a little ham on the editing side of things here but that happens sometimes when you  are distracted….

As I had mentioned earlier, I had no idea what I had gotten myself into… Well what I meant by that was not only did I get a chance to work with this awesome model but I made a friend who shared my love of books and was an awesome gardener as well. She led me further along these tracks and finally to this ravine that touch the river! Oh boy that was perfect timing since we caught the sunset!

Here are the images from that spot!

Finally we started going back and just got these final few images!
