THE ENGAGEMENT RING AND HOW THEY MET

Lauren & Patrick met 5.5 years ago via OkCupid! Their first date is the definition of an amazing first date. It started off with Dinner at Montana’s followed by bowling. They then went for a walk down to White Mud Park (which will become an epic location in their love story eventually!) and concluded the evening with a Star Wars Marathon! These two individuals enjoy music a lot and happen to have the coolest proposal I have ever heard of!

Being the songwriter and singer, Patrick decided to write Lauren a song. One evening the couple went for a drive down to White Mud Park. In the parking lot, Patrick asked Lauren if she could hear a song he had written. Patrick often requests this of Lauren so this was nothing unusual. He put on the song he had recorded on the car’s music player. As the song starts playing, the screen within the car flashes “Hey Lauren, for serious, will you marry me?”. She did not see it coming! She, of course, said yes. If nothing, the proposal itself deserved a yes!

Their ring has a cool story of its own. They went to the different jewelry stores to find the perfect engagement ring but nothing was right. Finally, Lauren’s dad mentioned that her grandpa still had her great-great grandma’s ring. This was the perfect ring and Lauren was the perfect person to inherit that family heirloom. The ring itself has an un-identified stone which is either an extremely precious stone or old whiskey bottle glass!

It was amazing to work with Lauren & Patrick on their wedding day and we can’t be more excited to share their final images with them in the coming weeks! You can check out the rest of our work on our blog!

A Winter Engagement Session at Alberta legislature building

THE ENGAGEMENT RING AND HOW THEY MET

Jasmine & Joel met in high school 7 years ago! They are the definition of high school sweethearts. They started off as friends who often hung out together. One day, Joel found the courage to ask Jasmine out and she said yes! In these years these two adorable humans have come to share a love that is full of laughter and cute moments. I got to see this first hand!

Joel proposed to Jasmine on December 14th last year. This was Christmas come early for the adorable couple as they got engaged and made the announcement to their families! Joel and Jasmine sat on a bench together at the legislature building under the beautiful Christmas lights. This is when Joel asked Jasmine if she wanted to become his partner in crime for life! She said yes with happy tears in her eyes. This is why we choose the Legislature building as the location for their engagement session.

The Engagement Session at the Alberta Legislature Building

The Alberta Legislature Building is an iconic landmark that is known to every Edmontonian. During the summers it is often a location for families to hang out and enjoy the fountains. During the winter, it becomes a beautiful magical place that is decorated with tree lights and snow. The pretty lights give it the perfect Christmas spirit and that is exactly when and where Jasmine and Joel got engaged.

I photographed the couple on the grounds of the legislature building. It happened to be the only day we had ice rain so the whole area was extremely slippery! Thankfully no one fell but there were definitely some “oh shit” moments. This was Jasmine & Joel’s first experience with a professional photographer and I am so glad to have been a part of their engagement session. Following the engagement session they were kind enough to leave me a review:

A Majestic Wedding at the All Saints Anglican Cathedral!

Brianna & Kris got married on a perfect fall day in Edmonton! Their ceremony was held at the majestic All Saints Anglican Cathedral and their reception at the Queen Alexandra Community League, Edmonton.

Kris & His Groomsmen Getting Ready

We started the wedding day off with photographing Kris as he got ready for the ceremony. He was accompanied by his groomsmen and parents! At one point, Kris played video games with his groomsmen and that was awesome to photograph!

Brianna & Her Bridesmaids Getting Ready

We then joined Brianna as she got ready for the ceremony as well. We photographed some of the details including the dress, the shoes, and the jewelry! Brianna looked absolutely beautiful in her wedding dress. We got to witness and photograph an absolutely emotional moment between Brianna her daughter. Their Ceremony at the All Saints Anglican Cathedral

The All Saints Anglican Cathedral is an absolutely gorgeous church where Brianna & Kris tied the knot. It was first made in 1896 but was destroyed by a fire in 1919. It was reconstructed in 1956 and has since been maintained in its current state! It was a religious Christian ceremony where Kris & Brianna tied the knot. The ceremony was made even more amazing by readings from the Bible by some of the family members of the couple.

The Family Photos at the Alberta Legislature Building, Edmonton

Following their ceremony, we photographed the Mitchells and their families at the Legislature Building in downtown Edmonton. It was a fantastic location for family photos as we had a fantastic backdrop of the green lawns and the majestic fountains of the legislature building.

The Creative Formals at

After the family photos, we photographed the couple and their bridal party for their creative formals. This is by far my favorite part of the day as it allows me to create some amazing imagery for the couple by using my creativity and a little bit of humor. We took some goofy portraits of the couple and their bridal party once it started raining. We pulled out some transparent umbrellas and did things Mary Poppins Style!

We concluded this part of the day with some romantic portraits of Brianna and Kris around the ground of the legislature building.

The Mithcell’s Reception at Queen Alexandra Community League

The couple’s reception was held at the Queen Alexandra Community League Centre. Brianna and Kris had completely changed how the venue looked by handpicking all the decorations. Their venue looked very rustic and beautiful in line with the wedding theme! We started by photographing some of the details at the venue and started preparing their same day slideshow while dinner proceeded. Here is a link to their same-day slideshow:

First Dance!

After the speeches, the Mitchell’s got the party going with their first dance. Their children joined them for the first dances and it was so cute to photograph that!

Cutting the beautiful cake

Following the first dance, the couple cut their cute cake! Given Brianna and Kris’s affinity for Lego, they had the perfect cake that was adorned by Lego figures that represented the couple! It was absolutely brilliant and equally adorable!

Their Story!

The Robinson’s Engagement Session at St. Albert’s Red Willow Park

Vanessa & Drew Getting Ready

We started the beautiful day off with photographing the bride and groom as they got ready! Drew was accompanied by his dad and his groomsmen while Vanessa got ready with her bridesmaids and Drew’s mom. We got a chance to photograph a sweet moment where Drew’s mom kissed and hugged Vanessa as she was getting ready for the ceremony. We photographed little details for the bride and groom like the jewelry, the accessories, the shoes, the dress and a special pendant that held Vanessa’s mom’s photo.

Their Ceremony at Trinity Lutheran Church, Edmonton

Do you want to be married in a majestic church? Then this is the location for you! It has gorgeous stained galls windows and pews made of old wood! It was the perfect location for Vanessa & Andrew to say their vows and tie the knot! The ceremony was conducted by Pastor Ingrid Dorschel-kramer and was done in a wonderful and simple manner. It was sealed with an adorable kiss and an exit dance by the couple!

The Family Photos at Trinity Lutheran Church

The church had such a perfect lobby that we couldn’t help but photograph the couple’s family in the lobby! It was perfect with the afternoon sun streaming in through the tall glass windows!

The Creative Formals at St. Albert Grain Elevator Park, El Cortez & Downtown Edmonton

We went to three different locations with Vanessa & Andrew to create some cool and altogether different creative formals for the couple and the bridal party. Each of those locations gave us a unique opportunity to create some very different portraits. El Cortez was dark and dungeony meanwhile the Grain Elevator was very vintage and cool!

The Robinson’s Reception at Blue Meadows Hall, Edmonton

Vanessa & Andrew surprised their guests by bringing back the Harlem shake for their wedding! If you don’t know what I am talking about, just google Harlem shake! Their reception was at the Blue Meadows Hall in Edmonton. They had a really cool blue led backdrop that glowed behind their head table!

Nicole’s Cake did such a fantastic job of the cake for the couple! It looked absolutely gorgeous and tasted equally delicious!

First Dance!

The Robinsons began the festivities for the evening by starting their first dance to let’s Stay Together by Al Green. A true classic! They were then joined by Drew’s mother and Vanessa’s father for the mother-son and father-daughter dances.

The Mayotte’s Wedding at The Country Lodge, Edmonton

The Perfect Fall Wedding at the Country Lodge

Nicole & Brodie’s wedding was the perfect fall wedding once could have asked for. It was filled with golden colors and glorious autumn light. Leading up to their wedding, the Edmonton weather had been horrible. It was filled with rains and unpleasantly cold temperatures. Lo and behold, the wedding day arrives and the sky is miraculously clear and we get pleasantly warm weather. It was a perfect day to get married!

Their Story!

Brodie Getting Ready and Playing Settlers!

We started the Mayotte’s wedding day at the couple’s house where Brodie was getting ready. His groomsmen had joined him for the preparations and they all looked very dapper even before they put on their wedding attire. We photographed some of the details including the cufflinks, the Steve Madden shoes, the rings and his classy white tie. At one point, the groom and groomsmen got into a game of settlers and I made sure we got some goofy photos of that! We finished this part of the day with some classic posed black and white photos of the groom and his groomsmen!

Nicole & Her Cool Group of Bridesmaids

This section started with us photographing a gorgeous bottle of champagne that the bride and her bridesmaids were enjoying when we got to their location. Following that, we photographed the details including Nicole’s beautiful wedding dress, the jewelry she wore, her shoes and her beautiful teal scarf. The ladies also wore matching bridesmaids gowns that looked fantastic together! We finally took some photos as Nicole put on her dress and got ready for the ceremony!

Their Ceremony at The Country Lodge, Edmonton

The country lodge is such an amazing venue. It is this tiny little cabin on the north side of Edmonton that has gorgeous grounds all around it. I have had the pleasure of photographing multiple weddings there and each one turned out amazing! Nicole and Brodie’s ceremony was held on the ground of the Country Lodge and to say it was beautiful would be an understatement. The ceremony was conducted by Julie Tkachuk who happens to be one of our favorite officiants and a preferred vendor as well!

The couple made their exit to bubbles being blown by their loved ones all around them. It was gorgeous!!!

The Family Photos at the Country Lodge

We understand the importance of family and always strive to get family photos for our clients on their wedding day. For Nicole & Brodie, we used the fall foliage backdrop of the grounds and took some beautiful family photos after their ceremony. We are 100% certain the families will cherish these memories years down the road.

The Creative Formals at Red Willow Park, St. Albert

The creative formals are by far our favorite part of the day. Here we get to create some epic portraits for our clients by using various posing and photography techniques. During our scheduling meeting, Nicole and Brodie had asked me for a location that we could do their family formals at. I suggested the Red Willow Park as a great location since it was close to their wedding venue and had the perfect fall colors. The couple went ahead and found a train trestle which worked out so well for some of the portraits!

We took some creative portraits of the couple as well as some hilarious group photos with the rest of the bridal party! We know the bridal party members are an important part of the wedding day so we photograph them and give them some of the limelight! At one point, two of the groomsmen kissed while the couple was kissing for a photo. That photo might just be my very favorite photo of this year!

Given their attention to details and extraordinary design ability, Nicole & Brodie selected and even made some fo the decor for the reception. The results turned out absolutely gorgeous!

Amazing Cupcakes by Sammy

Instead of having the usual wedding cake, the couple chose to go with cupcakes instead. The cupcakes were made by Sammy who is a friend of the couple. She did an excellent job of the cupcakes. I can attest to that as I had three myself!

T-Rex at a Wedding

Now if I tell you I saw a dinosaur at a wedding, would you believe me? No, well go look at the pictures below because this couple had a t-rex at their wedding #weddinggoalsformyownwedding.

First Dance!

Nicole and Brodie started the party with their cute first dance together. They were then joined by their parents for the father daughter and mother son dances. We got a chance to photograph everyone enjoying themselves on the dance floor to the beat of the DJ.

Fall Wedding at the Baron in Calgary

Sonja & Aaron got married under the cloudy fall sky of Calgary. They had a beautiful ceremony at their home to begin their day and finalized their vows in front of their guests at the Baron in Calgary. Read the rest of the story below!

Their Story

The Stacey’s Engagement Session at Calgary’s Prince’s Island Park

First look at the Couple’s House

We started the day off at Sonja & Aaron’s house where Sonja was waiting for Aaron to arrive. We were greeted by a huge and adorable Freja, the couple’s furry baby! Aaron arrived and saw Sonja for the first time. They greeted each other with a huge hug and a long smooch! Tamara Jones completed their legal marriage ceremony at their house. It was witnessed by some of their closest friend and family members. October 14th last year also happened to be the 1 year anniversary of their possession of their home so it was a reason for double the celebration. We took one photo of the couple outside their house to commemorate this occasion.

The Family Photos at Prince’s Island Park

Following the legal marriage ceremony, we went out and photographed the couple and their family members at the Prince’s Island Park. We got some gorgeous family photos for the couple with a brilliant yellow and orange backdrop of the fall foliage. This is one singular reason why we love the fall colors for weddings. We created a special photograph for Aaron and his brother that is reminiscent of their graduation!

The Creative Formals at Prince’s Island Park and Peace Bridge

After completing the family formals, we photographed the couple and wedding party for their creative formals. The creative formals are by far our favorite part of the day as we get to create some epic portraits for the couple that they get to have for the rest of their lives! For Aaron and Sonja we used the beautiful fall foliage colors and the bow river to create some gorgeous photographs. We also got a chance to take some really neat photographs at the Peace Bridge.

Second Ceremony at the Baron

The couple had a second ceremony that was officiated by their friend Nathaniel Sarabura who had come from out of town to join them for their wedding. The ceremony was held at the Baron where the couple tied the knot in front of all of their guests and family members. It was quite emotional as at one point Sonja started crying during the vows. I may and or may not have been crying while taking the photos myself…

The reception was held at the Baron as well. The staff at the Baron did such an amazing job overhauling the venue for the reception in such a short period of time. The reception started off with the couple entering to some epic music followed by a delicious dinner prepared by the staff at the Baron! Following the dinner, the best man and the maid of honor gave some heart-wrenching toasts that brought tears of joy and bouts of laughter on the couple’s faces. Finally, the parents of the couple gave some wonderful toasts as well celebrating the couple’s marriage.

First Dance!

The couple began their first dance to Van Morrison’s Crazy love and showed their guests what a first dance should look like! It was epic to photograph the couple dancing. Sonja & Aaron were then joined by their parents on the dance floor for the father daughter dance and the mother son dance! Eventually, the party started and everyone was on the dancefloor celebrating the coupel’s union! We got a chance to take some epic pictures of Sonja dancing the night away with her bridesmaids!

Bouqet & Garter Toss!

How would a wedding be complete without the pre-requisite hilariousness that follows the bouquet and garter toss? We photographed as people leaped into the air to grab the bouquet. Check out some of these epic photos below!

A Beautiful Sunny Day with the Viranis and their adorable labradoodle, Brio!

Dogs & Their Families // Box Cube Portraits

Dogs play such an amazing and prominent role in families that we wanted to showcase their connection with the rest of the family. This session was focused on showcasing that amazing bond that Brio (labradoodle) shares with the rest of his family. We captured him playing with Nadia and Nabil and just being himself! Nabil and Brio share such an amazing bond that at one point Nabil picked him up like a baby and held him in his lap. Given how big Brio is, it was particularly adorable!

Terwillegar Dog Park

Terwillegar Park is such an amazing locations for family portraits especially for families with pets. It has large ground and huge green areas that work extremely well for photos! The park is an off-leash area so dogs are allowed to play freely which makes for some great candid portraits.

Summer Family Photography Session

Each family has a unique story to tell and we love being able to capture a small portion of that story in our photographs. The Kennedys had us photograph them at Terwilliger dog park where they often walk with their two adorable dogs (Mina & Lucy). We got a chance to see Henry (who had just turned 3) play with his parents and laugh with them!

Being the star wars fans that they are, they brought along stormtrooper masks and showed them off during the family session!

Terwilliger Park

Terwilliger Dog park is one of our favorite locations for family photography as it is a very beautiful and large park with a vast number of trails. It is also pet-friendly which allows us to photograph the furry members the of the family in a comfortable environment. Given the beautiful background foliage, it is an ideal location for family portraits!

We are so fortunate to have had the opportunity to share this moment with Kennedys. It was a very special day for them and we wish them many years of happiness as their family grows.

The Engagement Ring and How They Met

Andre was the one that got away. Cathy and Andre met in a bar almost twenty years ago! This was in Vancouver Island at a military bar. The first question Cathy asked Andre was: are you in the military? He said no, they started dating.

The eventually got separated and found each other again 10 years later! Andre was that one that got away and Cathy knew he was it! They had their first engagement almost 8 years ago when they decided they wanted to Elope. That whole planning process took a while. So now they got engaged again recently and decided they wanted to do the whole wedding rather than just the elopement.

They have two adorable and huge dogs together who I had the pleasure of meeting during their engagement session. You should see these adorable photos to understand what I mean <3

The Engagement Session at Red Willow Park

Cathy & Andre’s engagement session took place at the Red Willow Park. The couple chose this location due to the gorgeous fall colors and the dog-friendly nature of the area. It was also situated right along the Saskatchewan river which meant there were some gorgeous trails to use as backdrops for the photos.

Dogs and Their Families // A Box Cube Concept

MacLeods and their adorable family!

The Macleods are such an adorable family. They have a 1-year-old son Oliver and two adorable dogs. Namely Grady, a boxer bulldog, and Apollo, a beagle. The dogs play with Oliver and are so protective of him. They do warm up quickly though once they see you are a friend!

Oliver is absolutely full of life and he laughs everytime his mom and dad tickle him or let him run across the park! It was a privilege to photograph this family and I so excited to share these images with them!

Box Cube is my baby and I am always trying to come up with ways to create cool concepts for my clients. Dogs and their families were born out of the same desire: to do something uniquely tailored to my clients and my passions! I love dogs and can’t wait to have one of my own (hint: golden retriever).

William Hawerlak Park

William Hawerlak park is one of my favorite locations for family portraits! It allows me to capture my clients in a beautiful park setting with foliage backgrounds that vary with the season! It is also quite large giving me the opportunity to use a variety of backgrounds!

The large artificial pond inside the park is also great for the background!
