The Di Lullo’s Engagement Session at Whitemud Ravine Edmonton

Cupid’s Arrow

Love’s heralds should be thoughts,
Which ten times faster glide than the sun’s beams
Driving back shadows over low’ring hills.
Therefore do nimble-pinioned doves draw Love,
And therefore hath the wind-swift Cupid wings. ” — William Shakespeare

The Engagement Ring and How They Met

Elianna and Giovanni’s love story beings about two and a half years ago when Cupid shot them with his electronic bow and arrow. OKCupid was the app that brought these two lovebirds together. Later on in January 2017, on a memorable Friday, Giovanni proposed in a romantic and intimate way by adorning the house with twinkling candles and surprising Elianna. He gave her a beautiful infinity braided diamond ring to symbolize his own infinite commitment and everlasting love to her. The Di Lullos are a picture perfect romantic couple that love to take walks together or go ice skating. They also have an adorable Havanese dog named Leo to witness their love unfurl daily.

The Engagement Session at Edmonton’s Whitemud ravine park

The lovely couple’s engagement photography session took place by the river in the ravine of Whitemud park, one of Edmonton’s most scenic locations, especially in the springtime. There is truly no better time to capture love at its finest than during spring. Mother nature looked like she has put on her best and most regal outfit just to celebrate the betrothal of two of her children. And truly once more, there is no better place to celebrate Giovanni’s promise of eternal love to his beloved Elianna than outdoors amidst Rainbow Valley’s joyful foliage and peaceful greenery.

We took a walk on a great sunny day, and took some gorgeous pictures of the bride and groom to be. The huddling tree canopies mimicked the couples own loving hugs, while the sneaking sun rays heralded their bright future of married life. Our lens magically captured Elianna and Giovanni’s blossoming love on the trails of Rainbow Valley park; trails that reminded us much of the trails and journeys of life that willed that these two lovely people meet and fall in love. One of our favorite stills of them is a shot on one of the park’s bridges where a hugging Giovanni and Elianna look like they are about to cross over to the next phase of their life that we wish is full of wedded bliss and happiness.

I am so fortunate to have had the opportunity to photograph Elianna and Giovanni’s engagement photos and we are really looking forward to joining them on their wedding day.

THE ENGAGEMENT RING AND HOW THEY MET

Lauren & Patrick met 5.5 years ago via OkCupid! Their first date is the definition of an amazing first date. It started off with Dinner at Montana’s followed by bowling. They then went for a walk down to White Mud Park (which will become an epic location in their love story eventually!) and concluded the evening with a Star Wars Marathon! These two individuals enjoy music a lot and happen to have the coolest proposal I have ever heard of!

Being the songwriter and singer, Patrick decided to write Lauren a song. One evening the couple went for a drive down to White Mud Park. In the parking lot, Patrick asked Lauren if she could hear a song he had written. Patrick often requests this of Lauren so this was nothing unusual. He put on the song he had recorded on the car’s music player. As the song starts playing, the screen within the car flashes “Hey Lauren, for serious, will you marry me?”. She did not see it coming! She, of course, said yes. If nothing, the proposal itself deserved a yes!

Their ring has a cool story of its own. They went to the different jewelry stores to find the perfect engagement ring but nothing was right. Finally, Lauren’s dad mentioned that her grandpa still had her great-great grandma’s ring. This was the perfect ring and Lauren was the perfect person to inherit that family heirloom. The ring itself has an un-identified stone which is either an extremely precious stone or old whiskey bottle glass!

It was amazing to work with Lauren & Patrick on their wedding day and we can’t be more excited to share their final images with them in the coming weeks! You can check out the rest of our work on our blog!

A Winter Engagement Session at Alberta legislature building

“I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where. I love you simply, without problems or pride: I love you in this way because I do not know any other way of loving but this, in which there is no I or you, so intimate that your hand upon my chest is my hand, so intimate that when I fall asleep your eyes close.”
― Pablo Neruda

THE ENGAGEMENT RING AND HOW THEY MET

Jasmine & Joel met in high school 7 years ago! They are the definition of high school sweethearts. They started off as friends who often hung out together. One day, Joel found the courage to ask Jasmine out and she said yes! In these years these two adorable humans have come to share a love that is full of laughter and cute moments. I got to see this first hand!

Joel proposed to Jasmine on December 14th last year. This was Christmas come early for the adorable couple as they got engaged and made the announcement to their families! Joel and Jasmine sat on a bench together at the legislature building under the beautiful Christmas lights. This is when Joel asked Jasmine if she wanted to become his partner in crime for life! She said yes with happy tears in her eyes. This is why we choose the Legislature building as the location for their engagement session.

The Engagement Session at the Alberta Legislature Building

The Alberta Legislature Building is an iconic landmark that is known to every Edmontonian. During the summers it is often a location for families to hang out and enjoy the fountains. During the winter, it becomes a beautiful magical place that is decorated with tree lights and snow. The pretty lights give it the perfect Christmas spirit and that is exactly when and where Jasmine and Joel got engaged.

I photographed the couple on the grounds of the legislature building. It happened to be the only day we had ice rain so the whole area was extremely slippery! Thankfully no one fell but there were definitely some “oh shit” moments. This was Jasmine & Joel’s first experience with a professional photographer and I am so glad to have been a part of their engagement session. Following the engagement session they were kind enough to leave me a review:

“We had an amazing experience with box cube photography. Sharyar made our first experience with a professional enjoyable and comfortable. The viewing session was organized and well prepared with many examples.” – Jasmine & Joel

The Ayton’s Engagement Session at Edmonton’s Victoria Park

Fall Engagement Session at Victoria Park Edmonton

The Engagement Ring and How They Met

This cute couple reminds me of all the medical shows that I have ever watched!! You will soon understand why (PS Medical shows I have watched: Scrubs, Grey’s, House and more!). Courtney and Karl met while Courtney was in nursing school and Karl was in med school. They had mutual friends who definitely helped with the cause! They attended a show together in 2015 and as they say ‘the rest is history!’.

The proposal happened this year on July 8th when Karl, Courtney and Karl’s family went for a hike in Jasper! Karl had already spoken to Courtney’s parents but Courtney had no idea! Karl’s brother did not know either so he wanted to accompany the couple on their hike. Karl’s parents held him back since they were in on the plan! Courtney and Karl eventually found a secluded spot overlooking the mountains. Here, Karl turned on the Bluetooth speaker and played some of Courtney’s favorite music. He went down on one knee and said: “You are my best friend, will you be my forever best friend?”

Courtney said “No no no,”. She then cried and was in shock. Then she said yes!! So now they are getting married next year and Courtney is Karl’s forever best friend (that is so adorable!!!).

The engagement hair and makeup was done by Puneet Ramirez who did a fantastic job and made sure our photos look absolutely amazing!

The Engagement Session at Victoria Park, Edmonton

Courtney and Karl wanted fall engagement photos with a flair for nature and hues of autumn. I suggested several locations to them and they finally choose Victoria Park in Edmonton.

Victoria Park is a beautiful little area located right beside the river valley along the river valley road in Edmonton. It has an outdoor ice rink which we have in the past used for engagement photos as well! During the fall, it has gorgeous colors and beautiful tree canopies. It also has a wooden fence along one edge of the park that makes for an amazing location for photos. We started the engagement session at the Victoria Park right before sunset. We took some photos within the canopies as well as along the fences. At one point, we asked to borrow a fire pit from a couple for some of the photos :P. I do my best to keep the engagement sessions light-hearted and fun. This meant doing goofy and silly things like stethoscope pictures (reminiscent of Scrubs).

Eventually, we moved to the river valley road where we took some photos overlooking the gorgeous sunset and the river valley. We created some beautiful portraits of the couple there! We finally went down to the Three Boars Eatery which is where Karl & Courtney had had one of their first dates. I spoke to the management to see if we could do some photos there and they were so helpful and kind!

The Mitchell’s Engagement Session at Edmonton’s Muttart Conservatory

The Cutest Couples & The Best Sunset at Muttart Conservatory

The Engagement Ring and How They Met

Brianna & Kris are one of the cutest couples I have ever photographed. They are both nerdy and love start wars! They met at the Alliance Church in Spruce Grove in 2014. They would often hang out after choir and discuss things ranging from Harry Potter to Start Wars. Kris would often take Brianna’s son to rock climbing as well!

This cute couple had its first date at the Muttart Conservatory. Given their affinity for rock climbing, they climbed the Dove of Peace! Kris proposed to Brianna on January 28th, 2017. The bought the ring together and then went to the Van Oyster Bar for dinner. They had oysters the first time and followed that with a walk down Whyte Avenue! They eventually went down to their first date spot, the Muttart Conservatory, where Kris went down on one knee to propose. Somehow, the ring fell down in the snow and both Kris & Brianna had to go searching for it.

The only words Kris had said on his knees were: “I have an important question”
The immediate answer that followed was “Yes!”

Kris, being the amazing gentleman that he is, went to see Brianna’s parents first and got their permission. With their blessing, this couple got engaged and will be getting married really really soon!

The hair and makeup were done by the amazing Hamana of Hamana’s Artistry. She used a palette of beautiful colors that suited Brianna’s outfit and skin tones but also made her look very beautiful! Krist looked equally handsome in his jeans and plaid shirt!

The Engagement Session at Muttart Conservatory, Edmonton

Muttart conservatory is one of the most beautiful spots within the city. With its unique combinations of pyramids and scenic view of the city, it is the perfect spot for engagement photos. I love including places that are sentimental and important to my couples in the photos. In this case, this was the spot where the two love birds had their first date!

I am so fortunate to have had the opportunity to photograph Brianna & Kris’s engagement photos and we are really looking forward to joining them on their wedding day.

The Engagement Ring and How They Met

You know when people say that social media is taking people further apart, I tend to agree most of the times. Now and then, I come across people like Sonja & Aaron who force me to throw that perspective out the window by telling me they met via POF. Now if you don’t know what that is, and you are single, I suggest you find out fast! Hint… lots of fish…

Anyway, Sonja & Aaron both lived in BC before moving to Calgary. They started speaking online via POF. Sonja had already moved from Vancouver down to Calgary for work. At this time, Aaron was still in Victoria. Right around the time of stampede, he decided to do what everyone originally from the East Coast does, move to Alberta for work. It turned out to be one of the best and most impactful decisions he had made for his life. This was almost three years ago. As they say, the rest is history. The first meeting soon turned into a second and a third meeting, with Sonja’s friends telling her she would be an idiot not to give him a chance. They eventually moved in together, bought a house and have a beautiful and huge dog together “Freja” who is so cute! They are like the perfect cute family! Don’t believe me? Check out these cute pictures and the video below!

See the thing about cute couples is, they don’t stop being cute at any stage in life. The proposal is so cute in this case! It was their 2nd Anniversary and 2nd stampede together when Aaron went down on one knee and presented Sonja with two ring pops (Ok there was more than two, but Aaron loves candy). One for himself, one for her. That was the proposal and of course who can say no to a proposal like that? This was July 2016. Come January 2017 they made it more official and had the ‘real’ ring custom made. With the centre stone they bought together, they combined gold from both families and had Sonja’s grandmothers ring remade to form a unique and sentimental piece. Isn’t that just special?

Emilia with Emilia Art makeup did such a fantastic job of the hair and makeup for Sonja. The light and fresh look went so perfectly with her outfit and the location. Thank you so much for your amazing work!

The Engagement Session at Prince’s Island Park, Calgary

Calgary is full of cool locations to take engagement photos in. We choose the Prince’s Island park due to its proximity to the couple’s house and the huge variety of mini locations that exist within the park. We also went out to this cool nearby spot where we could overlook the whole city!
