An Autumnal Union at St Josaphat’s Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral

On the serene Saturday of September 16, 2023, Jazminne and Joseph pledged their lives to one another, surrounded by the stained glass and sacred walls of St Josaphat’s Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral. As a wedding photographer in Calgary, it is not every day that I witness a story as uniquely charming as theirs unfold through my lens.

Their journey began amidst the rugged beauty of Lake Minnewanka, where Joseph intended to propose in the lap of nature. However, as fate would have it, Jazminne’s fears of the wilds nudged them back before the plan could unfold. Yet, true love is not deterred by disrupted plans, and her resounding “Yes!” echoed all the way from the untamed trails to the golden hues of their fall wedding day.

Capturing the Essence of Fall and Faith

The day dawned with the warmth of autumn’s palette, the reds, oranges, and yellows creating a perfect backdrop for a celebration of love. I had the honor of capturing the moments as they unfolded, starting with the heartfelt Catholic ceremony. The joy and solemnity intertwined as Jazminne and Joseph, accompanied by their closest family, stepped into the new chapter of their lives.

Our next destination was Louise McKinney Park, where the bridal party’s laughter mingled with the rustling leaves. The park, with its tranquil river views and vibrant foliage, provided a canvas for memories that Jazminne and Joseph will cherish forever.

In a tribute to their shared past, we then visited the University of Alberta grounds, where the Old Arts Building stood as a testament to their youthful dreams. Here, I captured not just the elegance of the bridal party against the classical architecture but also the silent whispers of nostalgia in the corridors where Jazminne and Joseph’s love story blossomed.

A Touch of Mexican Vibrance

Perhaps one of the most unique and colorful aspects of their day was the incorporation of blue and red sombreros, a vibrant nod to Jazminne’s heritage, lovingly procured by her aunt from Mexico. These photos are more than images; they are a celebration of culture, color, and the joy that every family brings to the mosaic of a wedding.
