A Multi-Cultural Wedding!
Their Story:
Having met at high school before getting reunited later in life, Adam & Ekta went on a trip last year to Dubai where Adam proposed. You can read the rest of the story and their engagement session here: Bond’s Engagement Session. You can also check out their same-day wedding slideshow here: Adam & Ekta Reception Slideshow. Their Hindu wedding at Hindu Society of Alberta followed by the Western Wedding at the Royal Glenora Club can be seen below!
A Indian/Western Fusion Wedding
Adam & Ekta had a beautiful 3 day wedding that was one of the most culturally diverse weddings that I have ever photographed. The first event consisted of Mehndi where the bride (Ekta) had henna put on her hands. This tradition comes from Vedic traditions surrounding the idea of “awakening the inner light”. There are usually initials of the groom hidden inside the intricate designs of the Henna on the hands of the bride. This is one of the several pre-wedding traditions that are part of the Indian culture. I photographed the bride as she was getting the henna put on her hand as well as on the hands of several other family members. The second day was primarily a hindu traditional wedding that was surrounded by hindu culture including the classic red bridal dress, sherwani’s for the men and a temple where the ceremony was held. The third day was a western ceremony that was held at the Royal Glenora Club!
Traditional Hindu Ceremony at the Hindu Society of Alberta
The first wedding ceremony was held at the Hindu Society of Alberta on the 3rd of September, 2016. The day started off with the bride getting ready with her bridesmaids at her house. She wore a beautiful traditional Indian red wedding dress. The mother of the bride fed Ekta yogurt as a traditional start to good things and she was also given blessings by her father as she touched his feet (tradition of ashirwaad). Following this, we went out to the Hindu Society of Alberta where a priest was preparing the “mundap” or the temple for the Hindu ceremony to follow. Here we were joined by the by the groom, his family and groomsman in traditional Indian attire. They were drums being played for their welcome and they were met by Ekta’s family outside the temple. The wedding at Hindu Society of Alberta was just amazing to photograph as it was full of colors and emotions.
There were a number of other elaborate ceremonies that were performed by the priest for Adam. Ekta joined him later for the rest of the ceremonies as they were then bound together by the traditional Hindu wedding. Following the wedding ceremony, there were quite a few tears and good byes as the bride said a farewell to her family. There was one particular moment where Ekta’s dad was sobbing while holding her and that almost made me cry!
Western Wedding Ceremony at Royal Glenora Club
The next day started off with me and Amanda (my second photographer) joining Adam and his groomsman at the best man’s house. The house was absolutely gorgeous and had some really cool katanas (Japanese swords). We thought why not utilize them for a duel between the groomsman? So that is what we did!
Following the guy getting ready, we head out to Ekta’s parents’ house where she was getting ready with her bridesmaids. She was having her hair and makeup done when we arrived. She was also given a beautiful veil made out of lace as a gift by her bridesmaids. It looks absolutely fabulous with her dress!
We then went out for the ceremony at the Royal Glenora Club in Edmonton. It was a beautiful ceremony that was complemented with a stone and wine ceremonies as well.
Formals at Alberta Legislature Building
Following the ceremony, we went out to the legislature building and took photos of the couple with their bridal party. Some of these photos were made in a way that they portrayed the couples personality and love of architecture. The location was an excellent choice due to the amazing weather and beautiful architecture.
Reception at Fantasyland Hotel
The reception of the wedding was held at the Fantasyland Hotel and it look absolutely majestic. The hotel rooms blue color complemented the gold accents of their wedding. The decor and food were equally amazing! They actually had a liquor fountain that was made of ice and looked incredible!
Online Gallery
An online gallery of all their images is available for the next 30 days. From the online gallery, you are able to favorite images, order prints and share the gallery with your family and friends. The gallery can be accessed via the link below and you can contact Adam & Ekta directly for their secure password.
I pride myself in my ability to create artwork for the couples I photograph and this couple made it very easy! They looked absolutely beautiful together at their wedding at Royal Glenora Club Edmonton.
We were so fortunate to be a part Adam & Ekta’s wedding. It was an absolute honor to be a part of their day!
