End Malaria Initiative
Malaria is considered one of the deadliest diseases in the world. This mosquito borne pathogen killed approximately 438,000 individuals in 2015. One of the most effective ways to reducing the diseases impact is by using preventative measure. End Malaria Initiative is a student run organization at the University of Alberta. Its primary goal is to eradicate malaria by providing mosquito nets to various villages in Africa. I had the privilege to photograph some of the executives of the student group for an upcoming event “iheart night”. The event is meant to be the largest fundraiser for the causes and last year along raised approximately $5,000.
University of Alberta, Edmonton
The University of Alberta is a major academic institution in Edmonton, AB. It is a center for research on various diseases including malaria. We choose this location as the background for our portraits due to the story behind the student group. Since the student group is based out of University of Alberta, it was perfect to complete the photo shoot there as well. We choose CCIS or the Centennial Centre for Interdisciplinary Science as the location. The large glass walls combined with the spacious halls made for a great location to create some amazing portraits for the executives.
